Of Frogger and Delhi Traffic...

Do you guys remember that arcade game called 'Frogger'? Well if you don't here's a little insight, "The object of the game is to direct frogs to their homes one by one. To do this, each frog must avoid cars while crossing a busy road and navigate a river full of hazards. The skillful player may obtain many bonuses along the way."(source: good ole Wikipedia)

Yep, this is the scenario in Delhi roads for a pedestrian, considering proper zebra lines for pedestrian crossing aren't implemented, and people jaywalk all the time. They even obstruct traffic that way.lol. No wonder motorists just want to run them over. Well run us over coz I've joined the pedestrian crowd of Delhi lately and truth be told I've almost been run over 4-5 times...:(

On the flipside, did you know the benefits of this kind of ped-xing? I bet you didn't even think of it, so let me tell you... First, you hone your skills in estimation. You learn how to estimate how far a car should be for you to safely (even if you miss by an inch) cross a stretch of road. And also estimate the speed you need to walk or run for your life. haha. This makes you alert and active and really develops your impromptu-decision-making skills.:D Secondly, it makes you agile and flexible. Delhi traffic if not moving is almost always bumper to bumper with no space to walk in at all, and so people bend forward or backward, flex, jump over tires, suck in their tummies and squeeze into tiny place and what not just to get thru this compact mass of cars. Phew! In context of that, thirdly, it makes you sporty. Haha that's self explanatory. And of course who can forget the honing of swearing-skills of both motorists and pedestrians. lol. Finally, your survival instict will be par excellent. 'again thats self explanatory'

So I say go enjoy playing Frogger on Delhi roads and be safe. It's not always bad in fact I enjoy it a lot. Btw this idea was given by my bhabi, I can't really take all the credit for this:).. Hmmmn come to think of it, I think she deserves a post of her own with her quotable quotes that are so hilarious... hmmmmn Well watch out for that. I end this post now tell me about your crossing experiences too... I'd love to hear you stories too:)
